How to Convert GIF to WebP
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net and open the editor. No installation or account is needed. Everything runs in your browser.
- 02
Drop your GIF file
Drag and drop your GIF file onto the editor, or click to browse your files. FastEdit loads the file locally. Nothing is uploaded to any server.
- 03
Select WebP as the output format
In the output settings panel, choose WebP as the target format. For animated GIFs, the animation is preserved automatically.
- 04
Configure quality and size
Adjust the quality slider to balance file size and visual fidelity. If you need a platform size limit, use a matching preset when available, then adjust dimensions and frame rate if the export is still too large.
- 05
Preview and export
Use the side-by-side compare to check quality, then click Export to download your WebP file.
Small things worth checking
- WebP supports both animation and transparency, so it can keep the core behavior of an animated GIF while using better compression.
- Animated WebP files are typically 30-50% smaller than equivalent GIFs at the same visual quality.
- Use a platform preset when you need to meet a known file size limit, such as a Discord emoji or Telegram sticker.
- Enable frame deduplication to remove redundant frames and further reduce file size without visible quality loss.
