How to Convert a Live Photo to GIF or MP4
Walkthrough
- 01
Export the Live Photo assets
From your iPhone or Photos library, save the Live Photo in a way that gives you the paired video file, usually MOV, and the still image, usually HEIC or JPEG.
- 02
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account or upload is required.
- 03
Drop the MOV file
Use the MOV video from the Live Photo pair as the animated source. Keep the HEIC or JPEG still image nearby if you need to compare framing.
- 04
Trim and adjust
Cut the Live Photo motion to the section you want. Resize, crop, or loop it if needed.
- 05
Export as GIF or MP4
Choose GIF for broad sharing compatibility or MP4 for smaller files and better quality. Click Export to download the result.
Small things worth checking
- Use the paired MOV file for motion. The HEIC or JPEG file is the still photo, not the animation.
- MP4 is usually smaller and cleaner than GIF for Live Photo clips.
- Use GIF when the destination specifically requires it, such as some chat apps or older workflows.
- Trim the clip before exporting. Live Photos are short, but removing dead frames keeps the result tighter and smaller.
