How to Make a Discord Emoji
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account or installation is required.
- 02
Drop your image or GIF
Drag and drop your source image or animated GIF onto the editor. PNG, GIF, WebP, JPEG, and many other formats are supported.
- 03
Select the Discord Emoji preset
Open the presets menu and select Discord Emoji for a static WebP, or Discord Emoji (GIF) for an animated emoji. The presets target 128x128 output and a 256KB size limit.
- 04
Preview your emoji
Check the preview to make sure your emoji looks good at the small size. Simple, high-contrast designs work best. Use the crop tool if you need to reframe.
- 05
Export
Click Export to download the optimized emoji file. Upload it to your Discord server via Server Settings > Emoji.
Small things worth checking
- Use images with transparent backgrounds for a cleaner look in chat. PNG and WebP both support transparency.
- Keep designs simple: emojis display at very small sizes in chat, so fine details get lost.
- Animated emojis (GIF/animated WebP) require Discord Nitro for members to use. Static emojis work for everyone.
- Discord supports up to 50 custom emojis per server (or more with boost levels). Animated and static emojis have separate slots.
