How to Resize Video for TikTok
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No download or account required. Everything runs in your browser.
- 02
Drop your video file
Drag and drop your video onto the editor. MP4, MOV, WebM, and other formats are all supported. The file stays on your device.
- 03
Set TikTok dimensions
Set the output to 1080x1920 and lock the crop to 9:16. Choose MP4 with H.264 for broad TikTok upload compatibility.
- 04
Adjust the crop area
Position the crop frame to keep your main subject centered. TikTok overlays text, buttons, and profile info on the right side and bottom, so keep critical content in the center of the frame.
- 05
Export
Choose MP4 with H.264 for best compatibility. Click Export to download, then upload to TikTok.
Small things worth checking
- TikTok optimal resolution is 1080x1920 (9:16). Videos outside this ratio will have black bars or be auto-cropped by TikTok.
- Keep file size reasonable for the upload path you use. TikTok limits can vary by device, account, and upload surface, and smaller H.264 MP4 files usually process faster.
- Place important text and subjects in the center 60% of the frame. TikTok overlays the caption, share button, and profile picture on the edges.
- Export at 30 fps or higher for smooth playback. TikTok supports up to 60 fps.
- H.264 MP4 is the safest codec. TikTok re-encodes all uploads, so starting with H.264 minimizes quality loss from double compression.
