Compress Video for Email
Steps
Open FastEdit
Go to app.fastedit.net. No installation or account needed, works in any modern browser.
Load your video
Drag and drop your video file. Supports MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, and more. The file stays on your device, nothing is uploaded.
Set fit-to-size to 20MB or 25MB
Enable fit-to-size and enter your email provider's limit: 25MB for Gmail and Yahoo, 20MB for Outlook and iCloud Mail. FastEdit adjusts quality to hit the target.
Trim and adjust resolution
Trim to the essential portion of the video. Reduce to 720p if the video is long, as recipients will not notice the difference at typical playback sizes.
Export as MP4
MP4 with H.264 plays on every device and email client. Export and attach to your email. The file is guaranteed to be under your target size.
Benefits
- Fit-to-size guarantees your video is under 20-25MB, no bounced emails.
- Better than cloud links for recipients who prefer direct attachments.
- MP4 output plays on every device, the recipient does not need special software.
- No upload to any third-party compression service. Your personal and business videos stay private.
- Works on any device with a browser: compress on phone, tablet, or desktop.
Compression Tips
- Email attachment limits by provider: Gmail 25MB, Outlook 20MB, Yahoo Mail 25MB, Apple iCloud Mail 20MB. Target the lowest limit if you are unsure of the recipient's provider.
- A 1-minute video at 20MB gives roughly 2.7 Mbps bitrate, good quality at 720p and acceptable at 1080p.
- For videos longer than 2-3 minutes, consider 480p resolution. At 20MB, longer videos need lower bitrates and lower resolution preserves quality.
- Trim unnecessary intro and outro footage. Every second you cut means more quality for the seconds you keep.
- If the video exceeds 5 minutes, consider a cloud sharing link (Google Drive, Dropbox) instead of email attachment.
