How to Speed Up or Slow Down Video
FastEdit lets you speed up or slow down videos using speed regions on the timeline, from 0.25x slow motion to 4x fast forward. You can apply different speeds to different parts of the same video. Everything runs in your browser with no upload.
Steps
01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No installation or account required.
02
Drop your video
Drag and drop your video file onto the editor. MP4, MOV, WebM, MKV, and other formats are supported.
03
Add a speed region on the timeline
Select the portion of the video you want to speed up or slow down. Add a speed region and set the desired speed multiplier.
04
Set the speed
Choose your speed: 0.25x, 0.5x for slow motion, 1.5x, 2x, 3x, or 4x for fast forward. You can apply different speeds to different segments.
05
Preview the result
Play back the video to check that the speed changes feel natural and the transitions between segments are smooth.
06
Export
Click Export to render the speed-adjusted video. The output file plays at normal speed with the timing changes baked in.
Tips
- For time-lapse effects, 4x or higher speeds work well for scenes with gradual change (sunsets, cooking, building).
- Slow motion (0.25x-0.5x) works best with footage originally shot at high frame rates (60fps or 120fps). Slowing down 30fps footage can look choppy.
- Apply different speed regions to different parts of the video for dynamic pacing, fast through boring parts, slow for the key moment.
- Audio pitch changes with speed. At 2x, audio sounds higher; at 0.5x, it sounds lower. Mute audio if this is distracting.
- Speed changes affect total duration. A 60-second clip at 2x becomes 30 seconds; at 0.5x it becomes 120 seconds.
