How to Trim a Screen Recording
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account, no installation. Works in any modern browser.
- 02
Drop your screen recording
Drag and drop your MP4, MOV, or WebM screen recording onto the editor. The file stays on your device.
- 03
Set start and end points on the timeline
Use the timeline controls to set your trim start and end points. FastEdit provides frame-accurate trimming so you can cut to exactly the right moment.
- 04
Preview the trimmed result
Play through the trimmed segment to verify you have the right section. Adjust the start and end points as needed.
- 05
Choose output format and export
Select your output format: MP4 for video, GIF for a looping animation, or WebP for a lightweight animated image. Click Export to download.
Small things worth checking
- Use frame-accurate trimming to cut exactly where you want. No need to guess or pad extra time.
- For sharing in chat apps, export as GIF or animated WebP to get a file that auto-plays and loops.
- If the recording is long, consider adjusting playback speed to compress time. FastEdit supports speed changes.
- Frame deduplication is especially useful for screen recordings, where many consecutive frames are identical (e.g., during pauses).
- Export to MP4 with H.264 for the smallest video file size with maximum compatibility.
