How to Blur Faces in Video Online
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account, no installation. The editor runs entirely in your browser using WebAssembly.
- 02
Drop your video file
Drag and drop your video onto the editor. It loads locally. Nothing is uploaded to any server. This is especially important for videos containing identifiable faces or sensitive information.
- 03
Add a blur region on the timeline
Open the blur overlay panel and draw a rectangle over the face or area you want to obscure. The blur region appears on the timeline so you can control exactly when it starts and ends.
- 04
Adjust blur strength and coverage
Set the blur strength to control how aggressively the area is obscured. Higher values make the face harder to recognize. Resize and reposition the blur region to cover the face precisely. For moving subjects, add multiple blur regions for different segments.
- 05
Set the time range
Drag the blur region on the timeline to cover exactly the frames where the face is visible. You can have multiple blur regions for different faces or different time segments in the same video.
- 06
Preview and export
Scrub through the video to verify the blur covers the face in every frame. Once satisfied, choose your output format and export. The blur is baked into the exported video.
Small things worth checking
- Use strong blur for faces. Subtle blur can leave details recognizable. When privacy matters, over-blur rather than under-blur.
- For subjects that move across the frame, use multiple blur regions across different timeline segments, each positioned to track the face's location.
- The blur is permanent in the exported file. It cannot be reversed. Always keep your original unblurred file if you might need it later.
- Beyond faces, you can blur license plates, address labels, screen content, documents, and any other sensitive information visible in the video.
- Since FastEdit never uploads your video, it is useful for privacy-sensitive drafts, support clips, and review workflows. You are still responsible for verifying the final export before sharing.
