How to Convert AVIF to PNG
This guide shows you how to convert AVIF images to PNG format using FastEdit. AVIF is a modern image format that some software cannot open yet. PNG gives you a widely compatible output that preserves transparency without adding another lossy encode.
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No installation or sign-up required. A modern desktop browser is recommended.
- 02
Drop your AVIF file
Drag and drop your AVIF image onto the editor. FastEdit decodes it locally in your browser. No plugins needed.
- 03
Select PNG as the output format
Choose PNG from the output format menu. PNG is lossless for the browser-decoded pixels and keeps transparency when the source has an alpha channel.
- 04
Export
Click Export to download your PNG file. That is it. No configuration needed for a straightforward format conversion.
Small things worth checking
- PNG output does not add lossy compression. It keeps the decoded AVIF pixels and any transparency the browser exposes.
- PNG files are larger than AVIF because PNG uses less efficient compression. This is the tradeoff for universal compatibility.
- If you do not need lossless output, consider converting to WebP or JPEG for smaller files.
- Batch convert multiple AVIF files at once by dropping them all onto FastEdit.
