How to Convert MP4 to WebP
This guide covers converting MP4 video files to animated WebP format using FastEdit. Animated WebP is well-supported in modern browsers and produces significantly smaller files than GIF while retaining full-color and optional transparency.
Steps
01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. The editor runs entirely in your browser with no installation needed.
02
Drop your video file
Drag and drop your MP4 onto the editor. The file is processed locally. Nothing leaves your device.
03
Trim the video
Use the timeline to select the segment you want to convert. Set precise start and end points using the frame-accurate trim controls.
04
Select WebP output and configure quality
Choose WebP as the output format. Adjust the quality slider (70-85 works well for most content) and set your desired dimensions and frame rate.
05
Export
Preview the animated WebP in the compare view, then click Export to download.
Tips
- Animated WebP is supported in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. All modern browsers handle it.
- WebP produces much smaller animated files than GIF because it uses modern compression and supports 24-bit color natively.
- If you need the output for a specific platform, check FastEdit's 49 platform presets: many have WebP options with correct dimensions and size limits pre-configured.
- Use fit-to-size to automatically optimize quality to hit an exact file size target.
