How to Convert MP4 to WebP
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. The editor runs entirely in your browser with no installation needed.
- 02
Drop your video file
Drag and drop your MP4 onto the editor. The file is processed locally. Nothing leaves your device.
- 03
Trim the video
Use the timeline to select the segment you want to convert. Set precise start and end points using the frame-accurate trim controls.
- 04
Select WebP output and configure quality
Choose WebP as the output format. Adjust the quality slider (70-85 works well for most content) and set your desired dimensions and frame rate.
- 05
Export
Preview the animated WebP in the compare view, then click Export to download.
Small things worth checking
- Animated WebP is supported in Chrome, Firefox, Safari, and Edge. All modern browsers handle it.
- WebP produces much smaller animated files than GIF because it uses modern compression and supports 24-bit color natively.
- If you need the output for a specific platform, check FastEdit's 79 platform presets: many have WebP options with correct dimensions and size limits pre-configured.
- Use WebP quality, frame rate, and dimensions to work toward a size target. If the export is still too large, trim the clip or lower resolution before lowering quality too far.
