How to Make a Transparent WebP
This guide shows how to create a transparent WebP in FastEdit. Transparency can come from an existing PNG or WebP alpha channel, or from removing the background in the editor. Background removal runs locally in your browser after the AI model downloads.
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account or upload is required.
- 02
Drop your image
Use a PNG or WebP if your file already has transparency. JPEG and HEIC files can be converted too, but they do not contain transparency unless you remove the background first.
- 03
Keep or create transparency
If the image already has alpha, leave it as-is. If it has a solid background, use Remove Background to create a transparent cutout locally after the model downloads.
- 04
Choose WebP output
Set the output format to WebP. WebP supports transparency and usually makes smaller files than PNG.
- 05
Export
Click Export to download your transparent WebP.
Small things worth checking
- Use PNG or WebP when you need to preserve an existing transparent background.
- Do not export as JPEG if you need transparency. JPEG replaces alpha with a solid background.
- Background removal works best with clear subject edges and good contrast.
- The AI background removal model downloads once, then runs on your device for private local processing.
