How to Convert GIF to MP4
This guide explains how to convert GIF animations to MP4 video using FastEdit. MP4 is dramatically more efficient than GIF: expect file sizes 80-95% smaller with better visual quality. Ideal for sharing on platforms that support video.

01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. The editor loads in your browser with no installation or account needed.
02
Drop your GIF file
Drag and drop your GIF onto the editor. FastEdit processes it locally. Your file stays on your device.
03
Select MP4 as the output format
Choose MP4 from the format menu. FastEdit will convert all GIF frames into a video track.
04
Choose your video codec
Select H.264 for maximum compatibility across devices and platforms, or H.265 for even smaller file sizes when the target platform supports it. VP9 and AV1 are also available.
05
Export
Preview the result, then click Export. Your MP4 downloads directly to your device.
Tips
- H.264 is the safest codec choice. It works everywhere, from phones to social media platforms to chat apps.
- MP4 files from GIFs are often 90%+ smaller because video codecs handle temporal redundancy far better than GIF.
- MP4 does not natively loop on all platforms. Some platforms (like Twitter/X) auto-loop, but others require the viewer to replay.
- MP4 does not support transparency. If you need transparency with video, use WebM with VP9 or VP8 codec.
