How to Convert WebM to MP4
WebM is a video format used heavily on the web, particularly for browser-recorded videos and some streaming platforms. While WebM works in browsers, MP4 is far more universally supported across devices, apps, and platforms. FastEdit converts WebM to MP4 directly in your browser. No upload, no watermark, no account.

01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. The editor runs in your browser with no installation needed.
02
Drop your WebM file
Drag and drop your WebM file onto the editor. Files using VP8, VP9, or AV1 codecs are all supported. The file stays on your device.
03
Select MP4 as the output format
Choose MP4 from the output format menu. This converts from the WebM container (VP8/VP9) to the MP4 container with H.264 or H.265 codec.
04
Configure codec and quality
Select H.264 for the widest compatibility. Adjust quality. 80-90% works well for most content. You can also change resolution and frame rate during conversion.
05
Export
Click Export to download your MP4 file. It is ready to play on any device or upload to any platform.
Tips
- WebM files from screen recording tools (like browser-based recorders) often use VP8 or VP9. Converting to H.264 MP4 makes them playable everywhere.
- H.264 is the default codec for most video platforms. Converting WebM to H.264 MP4 ensures your video works on phones, TVs, game consoles, and social media.
- If your WebM has transparency (VP9 with alpha), note that MP4 H.264 does not support transparency. The transparent areas will become black. Use WebP or keep WebM if transparency is needed.
- You can trim and crop during the conversion. No need for a separate editing step.
