How to Redact a Screen Recording
Walkthrough
- 01
Open FastEdit
Go to fastedit.net. No account or upload is required, which matters when the recording contains private product or customer data.
- 02
Drop your screen recording
Drag and drop your MP4, WebM, MOV, GIF, or animated WebP recording onto the editor. FastEdit loads it on your device.
- 03
Trim to the needed section
Use the timeline to cut dead time before and after the useful segment. Shorter clips are easier to inspect before sharing.
- 04
Add redaction blur regions
Draw blur regions over private text, browser tabs, URLs, tokens, names, or form fields. Use a strong blur so the content is unreadable.
- 05
Time each redaction
Drag each blur region on the timeline so it appears only while that sensitive area is visible. Add more regions when windows move or the screen changes.
- 06
Preview and export
Scrub through the full clip, verify every private frame is covered, then choose format, crop, quality, and export settings before downloading.
Small things worth checking
- Check the beginning and end of the recording carefully. Screen recordings often expose tabs, file names, or notification banners for only a few frames.
- Use strong blur for passwords, tokens, and small text. Mild blur can leave screen text partly readable.
- Crop away unused browser chrome or sidebars before export when redaction alone is not needed.
- Remove audio too if the recording includes private names, meeting audio, or spoken credentials.
- Export as MP4 for sharing with teammates, or animated WebP/GIF for short support snippets that need to autoplay.
