Instagram Image Sizes & Presets
Instagram uses different image dimensions for posts, stories, reels, and profile photos. Square posts display at 1080x1080, stories and reels use 1080x1920 (9:16), and profile photos are 320x320. Uploading at these exact resolutions prevents Instagram from applying additional compression and cropping. FastEdit resizes and optimizes your images for every Instagram format.
Presets
Post (Square)
1080x1080 JPEG Max 30 MB
Standard square post. The classic Instagram format. Also supports 1080x1350 (4:5 portrait) and 1080x566 (1.91:1 landscape).
Story / Reel
1080x1920 JPEG / PNG Max 30 MB
Full-screen vertical content for stories and reels. 9:16 aspect ratio fills the entire screen on most phones.
Reel Cover
1080x1920 JPEG Max 30 MB
Reel cover photo displayed in the Reels tab and profile grid. The grid crops to a center square, so keep important content centered.
Profile Photo
320x320 JPEG Max 10 MB
Circular profile picture. Displayed at 150x150 on mobile and 110x110 in the feed. Upload at 320x320 for clarity.
Reels
1080x1920 MP4 (H.264) Max 250 MB
Instagram Reels. 9:16 vertical format, 15-90 seconds. H.264 codec with AAC audio for best compatibility.
Feed Video
1080x1080 MP4 (H.264) Max 250 MB
Square video for the main feed. 1:1 aspect ratio, up to 60 minutes. Keep under 250MB.
Tips
- Instagram heavily compresses JPEG uploads: exporting at 1080px wide and around 80% JPEG quality often matches Instagram's own output quality.
- Portrait posts (1080x1350, 4:5 ratio) take up more feed space than square posts, which can increase engagement.
- Reel covers appear as squares in the profile grid: place key content in the center 1080x1080 area.
- Avoid text smaller than 24px in stories and reels since it becomes unreadable on smaller screens.
